The Client

Lancaster University is a collegiate public research university based in Lancashire. There are approximately 16,000 students enrolled, and the organisation employs approximately 5,000 staff. The University ranks consistently in the top 10 across the three major national league tables, and was recently awarded the ‘International University of the Year 2020’ by The Times.

The Challenge

Lancaster University was approaching the launch of a new multi million pound Digital Health Centre. The organisation needed a variety of digital assets to support the launch, but did not have the technical resources or expertise necessary.

Several digital assets were required, including a website, animated videos, branding, illustration, infographics and photography, and all must be delivered within a short time frame. The organisation wanted a single contact who could provide all of these services to them under one roof.

The Solution

Creative Goldfish began a digital partnership with the Digital Health Centre at Lancaster University, providing consultation and advice on all challenges faced, before producing and implementing the required assets to their exacting specifications.

The first step was to create a new website, taking the time to understand the aims of the client and how best to achieve these through the website. Through this exercise we discovered that a complete branding suite was required, including a logo and style guide and professional photography. It was a must that the website also had a bespoke dashboard which enabled users to add content and maintain the site using a uniquely designed interface. Training was also to be delivered on how to use this dashboard.

In addition to this, the centre required assets which would promote its work, which included a short explainer video to highlight the SPACE program, in collaboration with the NHS. Other assets required included an illustration, podcast album art, diagrams and presentations.

Throughout the process we managed a collaborative and consultative relationship which led to us becoming responsible for additional tasks required by the centre. At every stage we took steps to understand the client, their goals and target audience, seeking regular feedback to deliver the exact specifications.

The Results

All assets were delivered to a high standard with a tight turnaround time for the successful launch of the Digital Health Centre. The brand is now recognisable around the world, visible on everything from the website and keynote presentations, to centre walls, mugs and coasters. This increases trust, as well as brand recognition.

The centre has been able to use the website to exemplify its need for increased internal funding. Centre staff are able to alter and maintain the website with confidence using the easy-to-use bespoke dashboard, following the one-to-one training we delivered.

Lancaster University has been able cut costs by making use of the assets for other projects, such as using the photography for different needs.

Our partnership with the Digital Health Centre has been so effective, that this has led to a new partnership with Professor Sumi Helal and his personal projects.

Key Outcomes
  • Strong brand identity
  • Effective website with bespoke dashboard
  • Website used to apply for internal funding
  • Reusable assets save costs and resources
  • One digital partnership delivering many different assets

Testimonial
"Creative Goldfish designed the website for the centre I recently founded at Lancaster University (Centre for Digital Health and Quality of Life Technology), and I could not be happier with the compelling design or the quality of service I and my team have received during the project. Ryan, the lead designer and Managing Director, is amazing in how quickly he gets on the same page and how fast he is able to come up with alternatives leaving the choices to me and my team. I strongly endorse Creative Goldfish and recommend them to you without any reservation.”
